Commissions

Commissions Status: OPEN. Thank-you so much for your interest in commissioning a map!

The Cost

Right now I charge between $50 and $200US per map, depending on complexity. My work is done under the CC BY-NC 4.0 license. I suggest you read the license, but basically it says that you can use the map almost however you want, but that you can’t make money from it or claim that it was created by someone other than me. I do make the map available for others to use – this helps keep my price low. Maps take a long time to make, and all commissions I’ve done so far have been at an hourly rate much below minimum wage – you’re certainly getting a great deal!

Kinds of Maps I Do

You can check this website or my Instagram here: LINK. I highly recommend you do so in order to see what what kind of maps I create.

City maps: I draw these on paper using pens and markers, then I scan it and touch it up in Photoshop.

Region and battle maps: I create those digitally using ProCreate. I add borders and town names in Photoshop.

The Process

First we discuss at a high level if what I can do for you, and the timeline, work for both of us. Then you would give me some rough sketches of what you’re looking for. If you can give me an example map from Pinterest (or somewhere else) that shows me approximately the scope (size of your geographic area, number of buildings on the map, etc) of what you’re looking for, that’s really helpful.

Then I will make a rough sketch showing you what I think you want. VERY rough. You can make some modifications at this stage, and we can go back and forth a bit until you’re satisfied. I do not charge for this rough map – it’s just a place to put down ideas.

You pay me half the price up front via PayPal, and I start work on the final map. For city maps I will pencil out the map on a piece of paper and send you a scan or photo. For region maps I’ll do this digitally. At this stage you can give some last minute feedback to make sure we’re both on the same page. Then I finish the map!

The process can take anywhere between a week to 3 or 4 weeks, depending on my schedule and how quick the communication is. (I often ask for clarification on certain parts of the map.)

When I’m done I’ll send you a low-resolution version of the map for your approval. Then you send me the rest of the payment. Then I send you the high-resolution image files.

And that’s it! You can then enjoy your map and use it in your campaigns or do whatever you want with it!
